My name is Matthew Ipsen and I have been awarded a 2013 scholarship from Nuffield Australia, sponsored by Australian Wool Innovation .
Ipsen Pastoral Company is located in Central Victoria, 2 hrs north west of Melbourne. Maryborough is situated on the northern slopes of the Great Dividing Range and is surrounded by bushland. It has roots which date back to the Gold Rush days of the mid-1800s when gold mining was the predominant industry in the region.
Ipsen Pastoral Company owns 1050 ha of mixed farming land. The major enterprise is wool production along with sheep meat, hay and grain production. Ipsen Pastoral Company also owns and manages a Merino Stud and contract harvests.
As well as working on the farm, I also run a small business in sheep artificial insemination and pregnancy scanning. Ewe Wish current scans 350 000 sheep and artificially inseminates 3000 ewes annually.
